ASME B16.5 Male and Female Flanges
Overview: Male and Female (M/F) flanges are designed to be mated together. One flange face has a raised area (male face), and the other flange face has a matching depression (female face). These types of flanges are commonly used in applications where precise alignment and secure sealing are critical, such as in heat exchangers.
Key Features:
- Male Face: Extends beyond the normal flange face by 1/4 inch.
- Female Face: Has a matching depression 3/16 inch deep.
- Finish: Both faces are smooth finished.
- Gasket Location: The outer diameter of the female face helps to locate and retain the gasket.
